<![CDATA[The Iron and Steel Industry has traditionally used quantities of both
lime and limestone to facilitate the production process and to remove impurities.
Very pure lime is critical as a purifying agent in steel making; in lump form
the lime quickly produces a high alkaline slag which ensures a rapid removal of
sulphur and other impurities. Low sulphur steels can be subsequently produced
using a mixture of powered lime and fluorspar.
