The continuing demand for power
has resulted in an increase in the burning of fossil fuels. Many such fuels
contain sulphur and the resultant emissions in the atmosphere are the
principle cause of acid rain. This can be devastating killing trees,
rendering lakes sterile and generally despoiling the environment.
Lime is used in processes designed to treat waste gas emissions
significantly reducing the effect of damaging pollutants in the atmosphere.
