INTRODUCTION TO WALLS

Maintenance
Tradical® Hemcrete®needs to be protected from the weather to maximise it's durability. As such the maintenance of Tradical® Hemcrete® is really the maintenance of elements that protect it from the weather. All of the following is common sense and good practice.

Surface finishes
Tradical® Hemcrete® needs to be kept dry and covered with vapour permeable surface finishes. These finishes (render, plaster, brickwork, stonework, timber cladding etc.) should be kept in good condition and only painted with breathable paint finishes or similar products.  Any product that is impermeable or reduces permeability will affect the durability of Tradical® Hemcrete®

Roofs and gutters
Roofs and gutters and downpipes must be kept in a good state of repair and regularly maintained in order to stop water penetration into the walls from above.

Plinth and ground level
Over time ground levels can rise due to the accumulation of debris or overlaying of ground finishes. It is important that ground levels are maintained below the dpc level and that the drainage of rainwater/surface water is dealt with in order to prevent the base of the Tradical® Hemcrete®wall from becoming wet.
